Australia were reeling at 58 for three from 16 overs in their rain-truncated opening One-Day International against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

The first match of the Commonwealth Bank tri-series was truncated to 32 overs per side after rains halted play.

Put into bat by India, Australia were 35 for 2 after 11 overs when heavens opened up in the first match of the tri-series, which also features Sri Lanka.

India seamer R Vinay Kumar jolted Australia early dismissing David Warner (6) and Ricky Ponting (2) early on to help his side gain upperhand.

For Australia, Matthew Wade (21) and skipper Michael Clarke (5) were at the crease when the disruption occurred.

Australian cricket team suffered a massive blow today after its veteran pace spearhead Brett Lee was ruled out of the entire ODI tri-series. The 35-year-old pacer will remain out of action for four to six weeks, also leaving him in doubt for the tour of West Indies starting March 16.

Earlier, India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bowl against Australia.

Brief Scores: Australia 58 for 3 in 16 overs (Matthew Wade 33*; R Vinay Kumar 2 for 8, Rohit Sharma 1 for 4) vs India.
