Putting together touchdown drives at the end of the first half and at the beginning of the second, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady accomplished something besides putting points on the board. He broke a Super Bowl record set by his boyhood idol, Joe Montana.
The record-breaking completion — Brady’s 14th in a row — was a five-yard pass to Wes Welker with 13 minutes, 22 seconds left in the third quarter. He kept right ongoing after that, completing his next two passes and hitting tight end Aaron Hernandez for a 12-yard touchdown. Chad Ochocinco even caught a pass on the drive.
The touchdown gave the Patriots a 17-9 lead and prompted an emotional reaction from Brady. He tapped the “MHK” patch Patriots players wear to honor Myra Kraft, the late wife of owner Robert Kraft, and pointed skyward.
