The Top 10 Super Bowl Commercials 2012

Super Bowl XLVI may go down as one of the best NFL championship games in years, but that’s not the thing people were interested in Sunday night.
This year’s batch of Super Bowl commercials came in forms of sincerity and humor. The sincere commercials focused on reminding us how far we have come and reminding us what makes America great. The funny commercials ranged from the clever to the ridiculous all in the name of creating buzz around the water cooler.
Below are my Top 10 Super Bowl Commercials of 2012.
No. 10 “Vampire Party” – Audi
At first you think it will be another Vampire movie/TV show ad but it’s much better than that. This Audi ad will put a smile on the face of any “Twilight” hater.
No. 9 “The Dog Strikes Back” – Volkswagen
Dog lovers had their day with several commercials featuring dogs. It would of ranked higher in my book if it was just the dog segment. The Star Wars segment at the end didn’t fit right; and lets be honest, they were not going to top the Vader Kid ad from last year.
No. 8 “The Tease” – Dannon Oikos Greek Yogurt
This commercial was great. One of my Twitter friends summed it up best “John Stamos just got his <expletive> beat.” If it’s good enough to justify headbutting Uncle Jesse, then it’s probably really good.
No. 7 “It’s Reinvented” – Toyota Camry (Extended)
This was one of those commercials that was so ridiculously random, it was funny. Toyota balanced itself by doing a serious commercial but it wasn’t as memorable as this ad. My personal favorite improvement was to the DMV.
No. 6 “Vocal Kombat” – NBC (The Voice)
Betty White = Comedy Gold. She may be 90, but she can make you laugh with the best of them. This was the only TV show commercial to make my list. If I had to pick one of the judges to play “Mortal Kombat” with, I’d pick Blake Shelton. He seems like the most well rounded, plus he’s using Scorpion’s move, “GET OVER HERE.”
No. 5 “Transaction” – Acura NSX
Seinfeld fans got a special treat. If you look closely, there were some clever, subtle, “Seinfeld” show references in there. It also didn’t hurt that the car looks gorgeous. The Leno cameo at the end was great but “I don’t want to live in a world where Leno beat Seinfeld,” as a co-worker said.
No. 4 “Rescue Dog” – Bud Light
It’s a man’s ultimate dream for man’s best friend. I’d love to have a dog that could fetch me adult beverages on command.
No. 3 “Man’s Best Friend” – Doritos
Speaking of man’s best friend, this commercial was the top dog featuring a canine character. I feel that Doritos have provided some of the most consistently funny and clever ads during the past few Super Bowls.
No. 2 “A Dream Car. For Real Life” – Kia Optima
This commercial was awesome. Kia went straight to the ridiculous side of the humor spectrum to deliver a barrage of crazy images men daydream about. Please tell me I’m not the only guy who thinks about bull-riding a rhinoceros? I’m not sure if I’d dream about driving a Kia, but it did make me think the new Optima looks cool. Mission accomplished.
No. 1 “It’s Halftime in America” – Chrysler
Bravo Chrysler, you were the big winner in my book. It was pretty obvious the commercial was taking a page from Ronald Regan’s famous campaign  ad “It’s Morning in America;” but it worked then, and it worked now.  It was a nice touch to have the commercial narrated by Clint Eastwood because when Clint speaks – you listen. The commercial didn’t need to be funny to make you remember the message. America, especially Detroit,  may have been hit hard by the recession but it’s not down for the count.
The Worst Commercial of the Night: Go Daddy
Please, enough with GoDaddy.com. These commercials are such an obvious tease, it’s insulting. I would never dignify them with a click on their site.
These commercials were stale three years ago, and they still keep making new ones. WHY?
